Cassandra Simmons graduated from Contra Costa College in 1983 earning an Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts. While attending CCC, Cassandra developed a new found passion for decorating baked goods. As a result of her culinary skills and talents, Cassandra opened Cassandra's Wedding Cakes and Beyond in Richmond, California. The bakery is an icon for the West County community and has been in business for 28 years.
Cassandra Simmons is very committed to her community and is an advocate for the youth and violence prevention programs. A recent example of her commitment to the youth and the community is her partnership with the Richmond Public Library's annual "Reading Game." Those who successfully complete the Library's reading list, receive a coupon for one of Cassandra's delicious Red Velvet Cupcakes from her Bakery.
Cassandra has been married for 41 years to her husband, Harold Simmons. They have five children and are blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold is her partner in the bakery business, serving as salesman and delivery manager.
Cassandra won the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award from Contra Costa College and her determination, hard work, and commitment to her personal "vision" has made her a role model to all Culinary Majors.
They have employed students from Contra Costa College with degrees in the culinary arts, students that are currently employed at Cassandras Bakery. They are hoping to hire more in the future.
